Why Is Networking So Important

Let’s give yourself a task, go to any popular club, read all the club goers’ profiles and see how many mention – “Do NOT IM me” or something along that line.

I always feel funny looking at some people who always portray themself as an intimidating creature. Before anyone can approach them they build a strong defence wall already and worse they put a big sign on their wall – “GO AWAY!”

I understand very well that one does not have to add everyone in their list but I know for sure that saying “Hello!” will not do much harm will it? I work as a host and my job is to greet everyone who walk in, and at my previous workplace, there are people who will not respond to me even though the question I threw in local chat was as simple as “How is everybody this morning?”

Throughout my hosting days I avoid using HUD to greet the guests, I wanna customize my greeting styles and I wanna make it sound genuine and the reason why I’m always approachable is because I understand the importance of networking.

I am glad to have DJs, designers, great builders, club owners, photographers, models… etc in my friend list! And because of my friendly attitude, I have friends who actually recommended some job opportunity for me. Because being a model in SL, you gotta constantly hunt for opportunity, you cannot get all diva attitude and say, “I’m just gonna sit here and let it come to me.”, one of the methods is through networking!

I am trully blessed to have great friends who supported me (You know who you are!) And I absolutely cherish all of you!

Imagine myself being intimidating and arrogant.

Scenario 1:

I go to a club, stand at a corner, basically tell every people who try to start a conversation to go away, then being labelled as “the arrogant one”, and this label is then passed to friends of the potential friend. The next time when I’m in trouble, where do I seek help from?

Scenario 2:

After graduating from my modelling class, I decided that all my classmates are just stupid, so no point keeping in touch with them. Whenever my classmate says, “hey let’s go to party.”, you’d hit her with a “no.” without even checking your schedule. Eventually my friend will stop asking me out and in future if she knows of any great deal that will benefit the models, do you think she bothers to even entertain me?

So you see how the above 2 scenarios are damaging if you are someone who:

  • Runs a club and probably need guests to show support
  • Runs a shop and sell stuff and need buyers
  • Is a freelance worker who needs job
  • Is in other kind of business

I always welcome IMs, it can be as simple as “hello Xero.”, and I know my network expands a little.

But of course, if your IM is meant to cuss on me then I’mma have to mute you. 🙂

My Take On Gridwide Hunt

I took part in a hunt and boy that was really ardeous! Some store owners were very good in hiding what we are supposed to find!

Honestly it is a very good opportunity for small shops to gain exposure! Imagine there are 1000 of hunters, they will have to stop by your shop and if you make awesome stuffs, there will be people who will buy something and pass the LM around!

What I like about hunting

  • Freebies freebies freebies – Some people may think that freebies sucks! But if you are told to hunt for 250+ kites and each of them contains a gift, I am sure you can find really awesome gifts!
  • The opportunity to make new friends – There are groups created to discuss about the hunt and there are helpful people there who will ask you to tp them over to hunt together and that’s where your friendship begins!
  • New discovery – I believe there are MANY stores with great stuff which are left undiscovered! Through this hunt you will actually realized that just because it is a popular store, doesn’t mean a small one can’t make better stuff.
  • Kill time – Sometimes when you log in and there are not many people online and you have nothing to do, why not try the hunt? And once you start, you won’t stop until you realize you have skipped 2 meals.

What I dislike about hunting

  • Ugly freebies – Can you believe how they put us through by making us hunt like some desperado and the gifts are extremely HIDEOUS? Oh well, I guess I shouldn’t whine as they are freebies but… Grr!
  • The opportunity to make new enemies – There are people who will NEVER help you despite you being so polite, well they are not obliged to help us but to call us “stupid” and “we should stfu and learn to be independent” is just outrageous!
  • Objects to be hunted are hidden – What happens when you searched for that object for 30 minutes in a store and nobody bothers to help you out and after 30 minutes you saw a message “Oh this store owner has removed the object and he will put it back soon.” Great! Now you cannot proceed!
  • New discovery of… empty shops – It makes no sense but it has happened.
  • Starvation – The effect of being addicted to the hunt. Nice way to slim down but definitely an unhealthy one!

Well I shouldn’t make it sound like it’s a bad thing, it’s fun if you really take your time to hunt without stressing yourself out! I know there’s gonna be a new hunt from 1st May.

Expect to see me in action again!!! Love y’all!

p/s: Don’t take my entry seriously, it was meant to be for entertainment purpose. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Ruth Attack!

Isn’t it frustrating to shop at popular stores sometimes? When everything is taking oh so long to rezz. And those who always try out demos to avoid buying the wrong stuff might have to endure the Ruth experience as some stores have so many things in it and God knows how long will it take to rezz completely.

My buddy Ortisha Jinn was shopping for new skin and she was trying out the demos until we decided to leave because we couldn’t stand the duration (6 minutes) for a skin to rezz!

I looked around and I saw many items in the store still haven’t rezzed properly too, I figured it could be my connection problem but she is experiencing it too! And it’s really hilarious as she looks really ridiculous in the Ruth form (she’s on the right).

It took about 6 minutes when Ortisha is struggling to have the skin rezzes on her. And the lady next to her has begun to look human despite still being desaturated so after being stuck as a Ruth for some time, we both left and we moved on to the other store.

The thing about skins and shapes is this, you can’t click and buy immediately because there are times your skin just doesn’t go with the shape of your face. So it is advicable that you test the demo before deciding to buy a skin. Also, sometimes pictures can be deceiving, the models usually look so good on the picture and when you put the skin on you just wonder what went wrong here?!

As for shapes… I am using my own shape and I don’t suggest shapes from some stores because they usually mark up the price to earn lindens from people who are too lazy to adjust their features. Don’t tell me about the amount of time needed to create shapes that will make you look like a supermodel when SL provides you everything when it comes to editing shapes.

Skins however, should be pricey because designers usually take time to make sure the skin tone is even and looks real. I’m not saying you can’t make money through selling shapes but sometimes it’s too much if you sell it too expensively.

Second Life’s Glitch Is A Hilarity

It all started with the inability to teleport elsewhere.

I have been gifted with the ability which is equivalent to a ghost – to fly through walls. Katrin Bracken, the diva a.k.a my power manager was too busy to notice me so I decided to greet the hostess on duty.

Hostess on duty Christensia Parkin was hysterical when she saw me.

Despite reassuring her so many times, I guess she couldn’t take it that I could float through the floor.

Oh well, she’s been sucha sweet lady so perhaps I could cheer her up in my Jigglypuff AV.

Well I guess I failed again… She is still hysterical over my gifted ability. 😦

I didn’t know I am that scary… Sigh…

–

Anyway folks, the glitch was real but Christensia wasn’t that hysterical, but her expression in SL was priceless! Thank you Christensia and Katrin for agreeing to be mentioned. 😛

Today is definitely not a good day to be in SL, I don’t know if that is a problem on my part or what but I have been crashing at least 3 times. And I will have trouble teleporting to other places, the worst is about the damn chat lag. It’s bad because conversation is mixed up and you just can’t reply in sequence anymore.

For example,

Me: Hello there, how are you?
Friend: Hey Xero, it’s good to see you! What have you been doing?
Me: Oh, been busy sorting out inventories
Friend: Interesting!
Friend: I am fine thank you!
Me: Yeah it is interesting isn’t it?
Me: Good to see you too!

I swear I have been trying my best to reply accordingly but things get jumbled up all thanks to the Lag monster! And because of the glitch, I frightened my fellow hostess. Darn!

Oh in case you wonder, my gifted ability didn’t last after I re-teleported back to the club. Double darn! I was having so much fun! Sheesh!
