But… It’s Just A Game!

It amazes me how some people take Second Life as merely a game. Well not that I have the capability of changing people’s perception but one thing for sure, throughout my journey, Second Life becomes a part of my 1st life and I kind of poured my heart and soul in it.
Have you ever wonder why do they include the 1st Life tab in the profile? My opinion is that it is to remind all of you that behind this “game”, there is a real person controlling the avatar. And that means technically speaking you are dealing with real people too, if someone comes up to you inworld and swears at you, I think you would be mad.
It operates the same way when someone inworld promises you something and then breaches it, you will feel still feel hurtful and angry.
Why ask someone who takes Second Life seriously to get a life when you’re at the weakest position and with full knowledge that you are a loser by evicting your tenant who rents a parcel and then promised to find him an alternative, play hide and seek because you can’t do what you promised and told your tenant to get a life just because he told you that he is not fairly treated in Second Life?
If you are a landlord and you rent your land to someone, that person tells you that this is just a game and you shouldn’t take it seriously and you should get a real life and refuses to pay you. How would you feel? Concurring? Or feel like grabbing his head through your monitor and give him a tight slap?
If you choose the latter, congratulations! At least you still have some senses! Otherwise you can just write a big note in your profile with something like, “I DON’T TAKE SL SERIOUSLY!” Then we will avoid making business with you and won’t have to worry about saying the wrong things.
I don’t know about y’all but I am totally against playing with someone’s feeling, if eventually you will realize that SL is just a game to you, please do not promise someone that you will love that person, just don’t do it! You have no idea what’s the consequence for you to make someone feels that he/she will never be alone inworld and then fool his/her heart by saying the same thing to other persons or just disappear mysteriously. Bear in mind that we are closer to each other because we connect emotionally. (Quote from my best friend McKenna Lyle’s profile.)
The character Xero Ashton means a lot to me, well it represents me a lot! If you are my friend inworld, then this is how I behave in RL too. And believe me; because I don’t see Second Life as just a game, I have met really nice friends and a loving boyfriend! And I learned about taking responsibility, ways to deal with different people and mutual respect.
Therefore for those of you who always use the lamest sentence “SL is just a game, don’t take it seriously.” you’re the one who should get a life. Not us.

You are 100% right! Just because it is a virtual world it doesn’t mean our avatars doesn’t have feelings! People should be more aware and careful of what they say towards the people they are involved with, in any possible way!
